Gift Bags

Okay, so I’m not a party person. But can someone please explain to me how the whole gift bag thing got so utterly out of control? Now movie stars cannot go to an event without coming home with a bag stuffed with over-priced goodies. And given the fact that they are some of the highest-paid people on the planet, you can be pretty certain that they don’t actually need any of the stuff in those bags.

How has such a bizarre practice extended to all parties? And you’ve got to ask yourself why would friends expect to leave your birthday party with a bag filled with gifts? Shouldn’t it be the other way round?
